COLINDE IN LIMBA ENGLEZA

A Baby Just Like You John Denver,
J. Henry (c) 1975

The season is upon us now
A time for gifts and giving
And as the year draws to its close
I think about my living

The Christmas time when I was young,
The magic and the wonder,
But colors dull and candles dim,
And dark my standing under

O little Zachary, shining light
You've set my soul to dreaming
You've given back my joy in life
And filled me with new meaning

A Savior King was born that day,
A baby just like you,
And as the Magi came with gifts,
I come with my gift too

That peace on Earth fills up your time,
That brotherhood surrounds you.
That you may know the warmth of love,
And wrap it all around you

It's just a wish, a dream I'm told
From days when I was young
Merry Christmas, little Zachary
Merry Christmas, everyone
Merry Christmas, little Zachary
Merry Christmas, everyone

Blue Christmas B.Hayes, J.Johnson (c) 1948

I'll have a blue Christmas without you;
I'll be so blue thinking about you.
Decorations of red
on a green Christmas tree
Won't mean a thing if
you're not here with me

I'll have a blue Christmas, that's certain;
And when that blue heartache starts hurting,
You'll be doing all right
with your Christmas of white,
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas.

Christmas Dinner Paul Stookey, 1963

And it came to pass on a Christmas evening
While all the doors were shuttered tight
Outside standing, lonely boy-child
Cold and shivering in the night

On the street, every window
Save but one, was gleaming bright
And to this window walked the boy-child
Peeking in saw, candle light

Through other windows he had looked at turkeys
Ducks and geese, cherry pies
But through this window saw a grey-haired lady
Table bare and tears in her eyes

Into his coat reached the boy-child
Knowing well there was little there
He took from his pocket,
his own Christmas dinner
A bit of cheese, some bread to share

His outstretched hands
held the food and they trembled
As the door, it opened wide
Said he, Would you share with me Christmas dinner
Gently said she, Come inside

The grey-haired lady brought forth to the table
Glasses two and her last drop of wine
Said she, Here's a toast to everyone's Christmas
and especially, yours and mine

And it came to pass on that Christmas evening
While all the doors were shuttered tight
That in that town, the happiest Christmas
Was shared by candle light

Christmas For Cowboys S. Weisberg (c) 1975

Tall in the saddle we spend Christmas day
Driving the cattle on the snow-covered plains.
All of the good gifts given today;
Ours is the sky and the wide open range.

Back in the cities, they have different ways,
Football and eggnog and Christmas parades.
I'll take the blanket; I'll take the reins;
Christmas for Cowboys and wide open plains.

A campfire for warmth as we stop for the night;
The stars overhead are the Christmas-tree lights.
The wind sings a hymn as we bow down to pray;
Christmas for Cowboys and the wide open plains.

It's tall in the saddle we spend Christmas Day,
Driving the cattle on the snow-covered plains.
So many gifts have been opened today;
Ours is the sky and the wide open range.
It's Christmas for Cowboys and wide open plains.

Christmas In Killarney

The holly green, the ivy green
The prettiest picture you've ever seen
Is Christmas in Killarney
With all of the folks at home

It's nice, you know, to kiss your beau
While cuddling under the mistletoe
And Santa Claus you know, of course
Is one of the boys from home

The door is always open
The neighbors pay a call
And Father John before he's gone
Will bless the house and all

How grand it feels to click your heels
And join in the fun of the jigs and reels
I'm handing you no blarney
The likes you've never known
Is Christmas in Killarney
With all of the folks at home

Deck The Halls

Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
'Tis the season to be jolly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Don we now our gay apparel
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.
Troll the ancient Yule-tide carol
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

See the blazing Yule before us.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Strike the harp and join the chorus.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Follow me in merry measure.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
While I tell of Yule-tide treasure.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Fast away the old year passes.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Hail the new year, lads and lasses
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Sing we joyous, all together.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
heedless of the wind and weather.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

First Christmas Stan Rogers,
1979, on Between The Breaks

This day a year ago, he was rolling in the snow
With a younger brother in his father's yard
Christmas break, a time for touching home,
the heart of all he'd known
And leaving was so hard

Three thousand miles away,
now he's working Christmas Day
Making double time for the minding of the store
Well he always said, he'd make it on his own
He's spending Christmas Eve alone
First Christmas away from home

She's standing by the train station,
pan-handling for change
Four more dollars buys a decent meal and a room
Looks like the Sally Ann place after all,
in a crowded sleeping hall
That echoes like a tomb

But it's warm and clean and free,
and there are worse places to be
At least it means no beating from her Dad
And if she cries because it's Christmas Day
She hopes that it won't show
First Christmas away from home

In the apartment stands a tree,
and it looks so small and bare
Not like it was meant to be,
Golden angel on the top
It's not that same old silver star,
you wanted for your own
First Christmas away from home

In the morning, they get prayers,
then it's crafts and tea downstairs
Then another meal back in his little room
Hoping maybe that "the boys"
will think to phone before the day is gone
Well, it's best they do it soon

When the "old girl" passed away,
he fell apart more every day
Each had always kept the other pretty well
But the kids all said the nursing home was best
Cause he couldn't live alone
First Christmas away from home

In the common room they've got the biggest tree
And it's huge and cold and lifeless
Not like it ought to be,
and the lit-up flashing Santa Claus on top
It's not that same old silver star,
you once made for your own
First Christmas away from home

Frosty the Snow Man

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say,
He was made of snow but the children
know how he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that
old silk hat they found.
For when they placed it on his head
he began to dance around.
O, Frosty the snowman
was alive as he could be,
And the children say he could laugh
and play just the same as you and me.
Thumpetty thump thump,
thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.

Frosty the snowman knew
the sun was hot that day,
So he said, "Let's run and
we'll have some fun
now before I melt away."
Down to the village,
with a broomstick in his hand,
Running here and there all
around the square saying,
Catch me if you can.
He led them down the streets of town
right to the traffic cop.
And he only paused a moment when
he heard him holler "Stop!"
For Frosty the snow man
had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye saying,
"Don't you cry,
I'll be back again some day."
Thumpetty thump thump,
thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.

Grandma Got Run Over
By a Reindeer
dr. Elmo, 1979,
dr. Elmo's Twisted Christmas

Grandma got run over by a reindeer.
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
but as for me and grandpa we believe.
She'd been drinking too much eggnog,
and we begged her not to go.
But she forgot her medication, and she
staggered out the door into the snow.
When we found her Christmas morning,
at the scene of the attack,
she had hoof-prints on her forehead,
and incriminating Claus marks on her back.

Now we're all so proud of grandpa,
He's been taking this so well.
See him in there watching football,
drinking root beer and
playing cards with Cousin Mel.
It's not Christmas without Grandma,
All the family's dressed in black
and we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts,
or send them back?
Send them back!!

Now the goose is on the table
and the pudding made of fig
and the blue and silver candles
that would just have matched
the hair on grandma's wig.
I've warned all my
friends and neighbors
better watch out for yourselves,
they should never give a license
to a man who drives a sleigh
and plays with elves.

\Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

from the film Meet Me In St. Louis
Hugh Martin, Ralph Blane 1943

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
gather near to us once more.

Through the years we all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Here Comes Santa Claus Gene Autry, Oakley Haldeman (c) 1947

Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right down Santa Claus Lane!
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer
are pulling on the reins.
Bells are ringing, children singing;
All is merry and bright.
Hang your stockings and say your prayers,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right down Santa Claus Lane!
He's got a bag that is filled with toys
for the boys and girls again.
Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,
What a beautiful sight.
Jump in bed, cover up your head,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight

Holly Jolly Christmas Johnny Marks (c) 1962

Have a holly, jolly Christmas;
It's the best time of the year
I don't know if there'll be snow,
but have a cup of cheer.
Have a holly, jolly Christmas;
And when you walk down the street
Say Hello to friends you know
and everyone you meet.

Oh, ho, the mistletoe
hung where you can see;
Somebody waits for you;
Kiss her once for me.
Have a holly jolly Christmas,
and in case you didn't hear,
Oh by golly, have a holly,
jolly Christmas this year.

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus T. Connor (c) 1952
I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night.
She didn't see me creep
down the stairs to have a peep;
She thought that I was tucked
up in my bedroom fast asleep.
Then, I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus
Underneath his beard so snowy white;
Oh, what a laugh it would have been
If Daddy had only seen
Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night.

I'll Be Home For Christmas Kim Gannon,
Walter Kent (c) 1943

I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
and presents on the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

It's the most wonderful time of the year Eddie Pola, George Wyle 1963

It's the most wonderful time of the year.
With the kids jingle belling,
and everyone telling you,
"Be of good cheer,"
It's the most wonderful time of the year.

There'll be parties for hosting,
marshmallows for toasting and
caroling out in the snow.
there'll be scary ghost stories and
tales of the glories of Christmases
long, long ago.

It's the most wonderful time of the year.
There'll be much mistletoeing
and hearts will be glowing,
when loved ones are near.
It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Jingle Bell Rock Bobby Helms
Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square
In the frosty air.

What a bright time, it's the right time
To rock the night away
Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh
Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell rock.

Jingle Bells James Lord Pierpont publ. 1857

Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,
Over the fields we go,
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring,
making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

A day or two ago,
I thought I'd take a ride,
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank;
Misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank,
And we, we got upsot.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

A day or two ago,
the story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there
I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Jolly Old Saint Nicholas

Jolly old Saint Nicholas,
lean your ear this way!
Don't you tell a single soul
what I'm going to say:
Christmas Eve is coming soon;
now, you dear old man
Whisper what you'll bring to me;
tell me if you can.

When the clock is striking twelve,
when I'm fast asleep
Down the chimney, broad and black,
with your pack you'll creep
All the stockings you will find
hanging in a row
Mine will be the shortest one,
you'll be sure to know

Bobby wants a pair of skates,
Suzy wants a sled
Nellie wants a picture book,
yellow, blue, and red
Now I think I'll leave to you
what to give the rest
Choose for me, dear Santa Claus;
you will know the best.

COLINDE - ORASUL VIFLAEM

În orasul Viflaem
Veniti toti ca sa vedem
Ca noua ni s-a nascut
Domnul cel far' de-nceput

Astazi si cel de demult
Si din proroci fericiti
O prorocit Isaila,
Ca se va naste Mesia

Dintr-a lui Aluzei neam (/ Elisei)
Si din roada lui Avraam,
Mântuirea lui Adam.
Pe scaunul lui viclean

Crai, fecioarele cântau
Caci va naste Pecesta,
[În] ieslea dobitoacelor,
Bucuria maicelor

Culca-te crai îngeresc,
Culca-te-n palat ceresc,
Culca-te pe fân uscat
În scutece înfasat

Pastorii te-or lauda,
Îngerii îti vor cânta,
Pe pamânt sa fie pace
C-asta Domnului îi place,

Si-ntre oameni bucurie
Si o mare veselie,
Si-ntru multi ani viitori,
Si-ntr-aceste sarbatori.

COLINDE - O CE VESE MINUNATA

O ce veste minunata
În Viflaem ni s-arata
Astazi s-a nascut
Cel far' de-nceput
Cum au spus prorocii.
Ca la Viflaem, Maria,
Savârsind calatoria,
Într-un mic salas,
Lâng-acel oras
A nascut pe Mesia
Pe Fiul în al sau nume
Tatal l-a trimis în lume
Sa se nasca
Si sa creasca,
Sa ne mântuiasca.

COLINDE - MOS CRACIUN CU PLETE DALBE

Mos Craciun cu plete albe
Mos Craciun cu plete dalbe
A sosit de prin nameti.
Si aduce daruri multe
La fetite si baieti

Ca-n toti anii negresit
Mos Craciun pribeag soseste
Niciodata n-a lipsit.
Mos Craciun, Mos Craciun

Noi am fost cuminti tot anul
Si milosi am fost mereu
Si in fiecare seara
Ne-am rugat la Dumnezeu
Mos Craciun,Mos Craciun.

Mos Craciun cu plete dalbe
incotro vrei s-o apuci?
ti-as canta florile dalbe
de la noi sa nu mai pleci.

COLINDE - MOS CRACIUN

Mos Craciun, Mos Craciun!
La casa de om sarac
S-a gatit faina-n sac
Si n-avem sa-ti dam colac...
Mos Craciun!

Mos Craciun, Mos Craciun!
Pe toate razoarele,
Pe toate ogoarele
Ne-am trudit picioarele...
Mos Craciun!

Mos Craciun, Mos Craciun!
Toate saptamânile
Ne-am ostenit mâinile
Si-am adunat grânele...
Mos Craciun!

Mos Craciun, Mos Craciun!
Slujim slujba satului,
Tarina bogatului,
Pajura-mparatului...
Mos Craciun!

Mos Craciun! Mos Craciun!
Pe toate cararile
Îti cântam cântarile,
Ardem lumânarile...
Mos Craciun!

COLINDE - MARIA

Maria se preumbla,
Vreun locas a-si capata.
Jos, în sus si iara-n jos,
Caci batea vânt friguros.
Si-avea vestmânt de-argint
Caci va naste Fiul sfânt.
Buna seara lui Craciun,
Zise Maria celui bun.
Lasa-ma-n palatul tau
Ca sa nasc pe Dumnezeu.
Dar Craciun astfel graia:
"Palatul meu nu-ti voi da.
Du-te-n grajdul cailor
Sau în ieslea boilor,
Caci aice n-ai ce face,
Nu te las sa nasti în pace".
Maria atunci pleca
Iesi-n cale si-alerga
Si-un grajd mare afla.
Intra, intra suspinând
Durerile-o cuprindeau
Sa mai mearga nu puteau.
Pusa-i jos si odihni,
Caii-ncep a tropai
Si iepele-a râncheza
"Stati pe loc nu tropaiti
Cu rânchezu' conteniti
Caci durerea mi-o mariti"
Însa caii n-au încetat
Si Maria s-a sculat
Si astfel le-a cuvântat:
"Fir-ati voi cai blestemati
Sa n-aveti nici gând a sta
Ori de cât îndestula".
Zicând Maria iesi
Din grajd si-n cale porni.
Si merse pâna afla
O pestera si intra
Si în iesle s-a bagat
Pe fân moale s-a culcat,
Ea în ieslea boilor,
Boilor saracilor.
Boii-ncep a rumega
Si Maria suspina:
"Stati pe loc nu rumegati,
Linistea mi-o tulburati"
Zicând Maria lacrimând
Catre ei duios plângând,
Boii-ndata înceta
Si grabiti o ajuta.
"Fir-ati voi boi fericiti
Si de oameni mult iubiti,
De mine, de Dumnezeu,
Si de sfântul Fiul meu".
Când fu pe la miez de noapte
Trecu durerile toate
Si s-a nascut Fiul sfânt,
Dumnezeu pe-acest pamânt.
Si cum dânsul s-a nascut
Ieslea-n rai s-a prefacut,
Si pestera în palat
De un mare împarat.
Mii de flacari îmi ardeau,
Si-alte mii se aprindeau,
Mii si mii de luminele
Straluceau ca niste stele.
Iar prin iesle flori crestea
Fânu-n flori se prefacea,
Maria se-nveselea,
Pruncu-n brate-si cuprindea,
Foarte mult s-a bucurat
Cum ca lumea s-a scapat.
Astazi s-a nascut Hristos
Sa ne fie cu folos
Si de-acum pâna-n vecie
Mila Domnului sa fie,
De aceasta bucurie
Si o noua veselie.

COLIND DE CRACIUN: LERU-I LER

Sus pe cerul înstelat
Mândra stea s-a aratat
Si cu flori de mar în mâna
Se coboara peste stâna
Leru-i ler

Într-un grajd sarac de lemn
Din cetatea Betleem
Într-o iesle-n rece scut
Domnul lumii s-a nascut
Leru-i ler

Celui care-adus lumina
Si peste acest pamânt
Pace de la Domnul Sfânt
Laudând pe cel din cer
Leru-i ler

Iar de catre rasarit
Trei regi, trei magi au pornit
Lui Mesia de se-nchina,
Steaua Domnului lumina
Leru-i ler.

Acel prin care-am cunoscut
A cerului lumina [bis]

Ce se-ntrupeaza între noi

COLIND DE CRACIUN - DESCHIDE USA CRESTINE

Deschide usa crestine [bis]

Ca venim din nou la tine. [bis]
Drumu-i lung si-am obosit, [bis]
De departe am venit. [bis]

Ca la Viflaem am fost,
Unde s-a nascut Hristos
Si-am vazut si pe-a sa mama,
Pe care Maria-o cheama.

Cum umbla din casa-n casa
Ca pe fiul sau sa nasca.
Umbla-n sus si umbla-n jos
Ca sa nasca pe Hristos.

Umbla-n jos si umbla-n sus
Ca sa nasca pe Isus.
Roata, roata prin cetate,
Case, hanuri, pline toate.

Mai târziu gasi apoi
Un staul frumos de oi
Si-acolo pe fân jos
S-a nascut Domnul Hristos.

Cete de îngeri coboara
Staulul îl înconjoara.
Îngerii cu flori în mâna
Împletesc mândra cununa.

Pe cununa-i scris frumos
Astazi s-a nascut Hristos,
Care cu puterea sa (/ Pe cununa-i scris asa)
Va împarati lumea (/ Ca s-a nascut Mesia)

Si de-acum pâna-n vecie
Mila Domnului sa fie,
Tuturor cu bucurie
Si de mare veselie.

COLIND DE CRACIUN - CANTEC DE CRACIUN

Din an in an sosesc mereu,
La geam cu Mos Craciun,
E ger cumplit, e drumul greu,
Da-i obicei strabun.
E ger cumplit, e drumul greu,
Da-i obicei strabun.

Azi cu stramosii cant in cor,
Colindul sfant si bun.
Tot "Mos" era si-n vremea lor,
Batranul Mos Craciun.
Tot "Mos" era si-n vremea lor,
Batranul Mos Craciun.

E sarbatoare si e joc,
In casa ta acum.
Dar sunt bordeie fara foc
Si maine-i Mos Craciun.
Dar sunt bordeie fara foc
Si maine-i Mos Craciun.

Acum te las, fii sanatos,
Si vesel de Craciun.
Dar nu uita, cand esti voios
Romane, sa fii bun!
Dar nu uita, cand esti voios
Romane, sa fii bun.

Ca asa ni-i scris în lege
Sa platim un an din zece
Doamne, Împarate sfinte,
Primeste si-a noastra cinste
Primeste-o si de la noi
Ca suntem pastori de oi.

COLIND DE CRACIUN - CE ATI VAZUT PASTORI

Ce-ati vazut pastori,
Sculati pâna-n zori?
Am vazut pe nou nascut
Prunc Isus din cer venitul
Fiu Dumnezaiesc

Ce palat era (/ avea)
Unde Domnul sta?
Pestera saraca rece
Pestera de dobitoace
Palatul era

Ce avea de-asternut
Micul nou nascut?
Ieslea îi era culcusul
Fân si paie asternutul
Micului Isus

Cine sta cu el,
Domnul mititel?
Sta Maria maica sfânta,
Sta Iosif cu fata blânda
Sta si se-nchina

Cine îi cânta,
Cine-l preamarea?
Îngerii din cer venira
Vesele cântari doinira
Pruncului Isus (/ Micului stapân).

COLIND DE CRACIUN - BUNA DIMINEATA LA MOS AJUN

Buna dimineata
La Mos Ajun,
La Mos Ajun

Ne dati, ne dati,
Ne dati ori nu ne dati,
Ne dati, ne dati,
Ne dati ori nu ne dati.

Buna dimineata La Mos Ajun
Ne dati ori nu ne dati,
Ne dati ori nu ne dati.

Am venit si noi odata
La un an cu sanatate,
Domnul sus sa ne ajute
La covrigi si la nuci multe.

COLIND DE CRACIUN - ASTAZI S-A NASCUT HRISTOS

Astazi s-a nascut Hristos
Mesia, chip luminos
Laudati si cântati
si va bucurati

Mititel si-nfasatel
În scutec de bumbacel,
Laudati si cântati
si va bucurati.

Maica Sfânta îi zâmbeste
Si cu dragoste-L priveste,
Laudati si cântati
si va bucurati.

Cine-Ti va asculta povata
Îsi va mântui viata,
Laudati si cântati
si va bucurati.

Si de-acum pâna-n vecie
Mila Domnului sa fie,
Laudati si cântati
si va bucurati.

COLIND DE CRACIUN - AM PLECAT SA COLINDAM

Am plecat sa colindam

Domn, Domn sa-naltam

Când boierii nu-s acasa

Domn, Domn sa-naltam

C-au plecat la vânatoare

Domn, Domn sa-naltam

Sa vâneze caprioare

Domn, Domn sa-naltam

Caprioare n-au vânat

Domn, Domn sa-naltam

Ci-au vânat un iepuras

Domn, Domn sa-naltam

Sa faca din pielea lui

Domn, Domn sa-naltam

Vesmânt moale Domnului,

Domn, Domn sa-naltam.
